Formerly Datsun lift trucks, the company is now known as Nissan Forklift. Nissan started the production of its first forklift truck in 1957 and used the experience and knowledge it had gained by manufacturing cars. Mass production began in 1961 in Japan. In 1965 Nissan started producing forklift trucks for the United States.
In 1988, Nissan acquired Barrett Industrial Trucks. Later, in 1989, Nissan moved to the United States to assemble and manufacture forklift trucks locally. Nissan Forklift Corporation established its headquarters in Marengo, Illinois. Later, Nissan opened production facilities in Spain and the Netherlands.
